Dr. Gerard King

PhD, Chief Cardiac Physiologist

Dr. Gerard King - PhD, Chief Cardiac Physiologist
Dr. Gerard King is a renowned specialist in cardiac echocardiography and has published extensively on the subject in peer reviewed medical journals. He is regarded as a leader in the field internationally. He holds an MSc in clinical science from Trinity College Dublin and a PhD from Dublin Institute of Technology. He is a Fellow of the Society of Cardiological Science and Technology (FSCST). He also holds a British Society of Echocardiography Accreditation and is a member of the Irish Cardiac Society.

Dr King recently published a highly acclaimed paper titled ‘Left Ventricular Vortex Formation Time in Elite Athletes’ in The International Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging.

Aislinn McGuckin

Cardiac Physiologist

Aislinn studied Cardiac Physiology at Ulster University and graduated with an honours degree in Healthcare Science. Aislinn is trained in both invasive and non-invasive cardiology. As well as the usual areas of cardiac physiology, she is also the physiology lead for pacemaker and defibrillator devices. Whilst studying in University, Aislinn divided her time among Altnagelvin Area hospital in Co.Derry, gaining invasive experience in Cath Lab and Pacing Clinics and with us in Eagle Lodge, where she now works full time, attaining experience in non-invasive testing.

Kate Colivet

Cardiac Physiologist

Kate graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Measurements at Technological University Dublin. From her time there she gained experience in cardiac physiology, respiratory physiology and vascular physiology. She became qualified in ECG analysis, analysis of monitors and exercise stress tests. Kate carried out her placement in University Hospital Waterford.

Joseph Canavan

Cardiac Physiologist

Joseph studied Cardiac Physiology at Ulster University and graduated with an honours degree in Healthcare Science. He has Cath Lab experience and is trained in ECG analysis, blood pressure analysis, stress tests and devices. Joseph’s placements included hospitals such as Royal Victoria Belfast Hospital and Belfast City Hospital.

Karen Coen

Senior Cardiac Physiologist (Aut Even Hospital)

Karen Coen - Senior Cardiac Physiologist (Aut Even Hospital)
Karen trained in the cardiology department of the Mater Hospital in Dublin while attending DIT Kevin Street. She also gained paediatric experience while working in Our Lady’s Hospital, Crumlin. She is currently a BLS instructor for the Irish Heart Foundation and an associate member of the Society for Cardiological Science & Technology.

Elizabeth Shorten

Cardiac Physiologist (Aut Even Hospital)

Elizabeth is an experienced cardiac physiologist who has returned from the US to Eagle Lodge. Elizabeth qualified from the Dublin Institute of Technology in 1991 with a degree in Medical Physics, physiological measurement and Applied Sciences. She initially worked in the Mater Hospital and Beaumont Hospital. Elizabeth then worked for 12 years in Our Lady’s Children’s hospital specializing in paediatric Electrophysiology studies and cardiac intervention. Elizabeth is a certified cardiac sonographer in adult and paediatric areas through ARDMS in the US.
